My Supernova Page
To take an image of a real Supernova, that's what I was dreaming of, when
my new CCD camera had first light on the third
of February '98. I planned to realize this in the course of this year,
though I was not sure to succeed, because of the uncomfortable circumstances
of my astronomical observation site. It is located 1 km from the city of
Bonn and suffers from severe light pollution. Good nights are also rare
in Germany, so I knew that the most I would need was patience and I forgot
this plan for a while. I first had to overcome some starting problems with
the new camera. On March 24, I read about a brilliant Supernova in NGC3877,
a mag 12 galaxy in Ursa Major, standing high in the evening sky and believe
it or not, the night promised to be good. And indeed it really was. NGC3877
was not too hard to find and I could not believe it, I glimpsed the light
of SN1998S with my own eyes. Of cause it was not too difficult to realize
the above mentioned plan.
Four more SN followed in 1998:
1998S , 1998aq
, 1998bu , 1998dh
, 1998eb
and it was even possible to record two nova
in M31 and M32 ,
dim objects in comparison to a supernova.
Four SN were imaged in 1999 yet:
1999bg 1999br
, 1999bw , 1999by
The first one in 2000 is

Here is a list of recent supernovae from CfA-Harvard.
I am still awaiting the next supernova in the Andromeda galaxy.
It should not take to long, because the last and only one observed,
appeared in 1885, and there should be one in a hundred years, at least.
